Message from the Mayor
Mayor Curtis E. DavisThe Town of Yanceyville is located in Caswell County North Carolina and has a population of 2836 citizens. Its historical roots continue to play a role in the Town's respect for people, tradition and home-town atmosphere. Being a rural agricultural community it is widely known for the Bright Leaf Tobacco and is celebrated annually with a street festival on the last weekend in September at the Bright Leaf Hoedown. The natural beauty, moderate seasonal temperatures, quality of services, competitive cost of living, safety, and historic architecture has enabled it to attract residents and visitors alike.

With the presence of Piedmont Community College, Carolina Pinnacle Studios, and the Caswell County Civic Center, we are able to offer a variety of cultural activities and opportunities for economic development.

Since 1986 the Town of Yanceyville has been organized under the Council-Manager form of government. The Yanceyville Town Council is the legislative body of the town and is responsible for adopting all ordinances and resolutions, approving the annual operating and capital budgets, setting tax rates, approving Capital Improvement Projects, setting user fees, making land use and zoning decisions and establishing long range plans and policies for the town. The Mayor is elected by the people to serve two-year terms and the four Council members to serve staggered four year terms.

The Town Council appoints a Town Manager to act as administrative head for the Town. He serves at the pleasure of the Council, carries out policies, directs business procedures, and serves as Personnel Manager. He also serves as budget officer and oversees the preparation and submittal of the annual budgets and the administration of the budgets, advises the Council on the affairs of the Town, handles citizen's complaints, maintains all personnel records, enforces the Town Charter and laws of the Town, and directs and supervises all departments.

The Town Council, in its legislative role, adopts all ordinances and resolutions and establishes the general policies of the Town. They also set the Tax Rate and approve and adopt the annual operating budget. They meet in regular session on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 7:00 PM in the Council Chambers Room at Town Hall. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend all meetings.

Public hearings are held to provide an opportunity for citizen input on actions taken by the Town Council. Public notice of hearings are published in the Caswell Messenger. Notice is also posted at Town Hall.

If you would like to present an issue to the Council at an upcoming meeting just contact the Town Clerk at 336-694-5431 at least one week prior to the subject meeting date.

The Council hopes the public enjoys the convenience of viewing the Council Meeting Agendas and Minutes on the website. Please note that the same information is always available to the public by request to the Town Clerk (Phone 336-694-5431).
