GET INVOLVED IN YOUR COMMUNITY !

 

As part of the NC STEPS program (article below) the Town is seeking volunteers with property or business interest that would serve as the Steering Committee in developing a plan for initiatives. The Town is eligible to receive $200,000 to implement local projects.  This committee would meet monthly for approximately one hour to help develop a plan for this grant project.  The Town will receive training and coaching assistance and there would be opportunity for you to share your opinions and ideas.  This is an excellent opportunity to become actively involved in the revitalization of your community.  Please come by or call Town Hall for an application to become a part of this steering committee.


WOMEN'S SHELTER NEEDS YOUR HELP

THE FAMILY SERVICES OF CASWELL COUNTY SHELTER FOR WOMEN WHO ARE VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE NEEDS YOUR HELP.  THIS SHELTER IS SUPPORTED BY GRANT MONEY FROM SEVERAL DIFFERENT STATE SOURCES.  ALL OF THESE GRANTS REQUIRE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF MATCHING FUNDS.  THESE FUNDS FOR THE SHELTER MUST BE RAISED THROUGH DONATIONS, CONTRIBUTIONS, AND FUNDRAISERS.  PLEASE INCLUDE THE SHELTER ON YOUR LIST OF CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS THIS YEAR AND GIVE GENEROUSLY TO SUPPORT THIS PROGRAM.  WE HAVE HAD RESIDENTS IN THIS PROGRAM CONTINUALLY FROM THE VERY FIRST DAY WE OPENED.  THIS IS A GREAT NEED IN OUR COMMUNITY.  THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT.  DONATIONS MAY BE  MAILED TO FAMILY SERVICES OF CASWELL COUNTY, P O BOX 727, YANCEYVILLE, NC 27379.


VOLUNTEER'S WANTED

GUARDIAN AD LITEM PROGRAM

The Guardian Ad Litem Program is a community program of trained volunteers who is appointed by a district court judge to investigate and determine the needs of abused and neglected children petitioned into the court system by the Department of Social Services.  As a guardian Ad Litem you must be objective and non judgmental and be able to interact with people of various educational, economic and ethnic backgrounds.  To qualify you must have a sincere concern for the well being of children and a continuing commitment to advocate for a child until a safe and permanent home is obtained.  To volunteer or to obtain additional information contact Charlene Wilson 336-503-5265.  Ms. Wilson is also available to give presentations on the program to schools, civic groups and church groups.

Visit Yanceyville bannerThe Town of Yanceyville has been selected by the North Carolina Rural Economic Development Center to take part in the NC Small Town Economic Prosperity (NC STEP) demonstrative program. NC STEP is a part of the center's Small Towns Initiative launched in 2005 to help revitalize the state's economically distressed towns of fewer than 10,000.

The Town will receive training and coaching assistance and network with 19 other demonstration sites representing 33 small towns across the state.

The Town is seeking volunteers with property or business interest that would serve as the Steering Committee in developing a plan for initiatives. The Town is eligible to receive $200,000 to implement local projects.

This is an excellent opportunity to become actively involved in the revitalization of your community.

The Town, as part of this project must design and produce a banner to be displayed at the Rural Center and at Town Hall during the three years of participation with this project. Plans are currently under way to produce the banner. Be looking for it when you visit Town Hall. To the left is the approved design.

Maud F. Gatewood Memorial Park

Maud F. Gatewood Memorial Park The Town of Yanceyville was awarded 7.36 acres of land on Firetower Road in Yanceyville, NC which was dedicated to be used to develop a passive park. They applied for and received $125,000 from a State Grant and $125,000 from a Federal Grant to be used to develop the project. The North Carolina General Assembly also awarded $5,000 to the project. Plans included a paved walking trail, picnic shelters, bathroom facilities, and horseshoe pitching areas. The rear of the property adjoins the playground area at Oakwood Elementary School.  Construction has been completed on the picnic shelter at the park.  Check it out with a walk along the paved walking trails.  To reserve the shelter for private functions, come by Town Hall during normal business hours, Monday - Friday, 8:30 - 5:00 PM.
